So I just got myself a new camera, and I’ve taken it out for a walk to test some detail work. It really shouldn’t matter what camera gear a photographer uses to create good images, but it definitely helps. So here’s some of what came out of that. More to come!

So back in September, my brother and I decided to hike the Fundy Footpath in New Brunswick. It starts at the suspension bridge at Big Salmon River and hugs the coastline to the boundaries of Fundy National Park. A nice 41km hike that goes up and down for about 4 days (the time we took to do it). It was such an amazing experience, and one that strengthened an already strong bond between my bro and I. Whether it rained or shined, we enjoyed every tiring minute of it. Here’s some photos from that adventure.

So last week I decided to take my bike out for the day along the Elbow River Pathway here in Calgary. Little did I know I would find a number of points along the pathway that the river itself decided to climb on to. Beyond that though, it was great to get out. The sun was shining high (as my body reminds me with the nice sunburn on my newly shaved head), the wind was nice and cool and everything was green. Few things I love better than getting outside for something active, camera in hand and enjoying what our beautiful world has to offer! Especially when there’s a cold Guinness waiting for me after I’m done. So get outside everyone and enjoy the weather!

A while back, when the snow was only just starting to fall down to meet us, a friend and I decided to climb Ha Ling Mountain. It was absolutely stunning. Like most of our climbs, we like to get there before anyone else. This time was no different. There was a fresh foot of snow, subtle animal tracks, and the sun hadn’t even risen yet when we started our climb. It’s hard to describe how inspiring a good climb, beautiful scenes, and fresh air in your lungs can be. So I suggest to everyone to try it themselves! Here are some photos from our climb:

In the near future, you’re going to notice a big change in the work I do for my business. Even this site is going to get flipped around, as I’m starting to change the type of photography I shoot to outdoor adventure sports. It’ll take a bit longer to change than I’d like, but I promise you will see some great shots of all those outdoor activities we love so much! Including (but not limited to) hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, snowboarding, mountain climbing, etc. It’s an exciting active time in my life, and I’ve decided to take my style of photography with me. I’ll still be doing families, weddings, portraits and pets for about a year as the transition takes place. But it will be less as times goes on. Photography is a learning experience in everyday life. I for one hope it’s a skill I never perfect, but always keep learning about! Here’s some photos from my hike of Mount Rundle’s south summit. Life needs adventure!

I’m a big fan of food. I love cooking, watching those cooking reality shows (Hell’s Kitchen, Top Chef, Pitchin’ In, etc) or even just trying other’s ideas. Beyond that, of course I’m a big fan of food photography. So here’s a couple attempts of me starting to get in to the world of photographing yet another thing I love so much. Expect to see plenty more.

Last week was Twestival Calgary 2011, and for those of you who don’t know what that is; it’s a twitter festival! Very awesome event, for those of us who love networking and getting to know new people. It’s perfect for learning, sharing your business, learning about others or just meeting in general. I was able to meet some very talented photographers and swap advice. Other then that, up until a couple days ago, it’s been snowing here again. The snow seems to have stuck to things in an interesting way. But that’s ok, we have sunshine again! And it’s warm enough to go out in a t-shirt. Here’s hoping it sticks, and we’ll be able to enjoy shorts, sandals and some outdoor photo shoots without the need of a scarf.

It’s been a bit busy lately, and unfortunately my news page has been neglected. So I thought I’d start to get myself back in it by updating with some recent personal photos.

Especially around this season, there may be some new members to your family. Whether it is a baby, or a new pet. With this new member, you’re going to want those memories because they grow up so very quickly. Every year may seem as a moment, and I’m here to help remember that moment.

It’s getting cold outside. But that’s no reason to stay put inside! With all this snow, it’s a beautiful season to get some photos taken and show that real Canadians love the snow! Cold never stops us. Also, for those days you do decide to relax, it might be nice to have some photos to look at while enjoying that hot beverage.
